You cannot go wrong with Hesse, Steinbeck, and Vonnegut.
For me at 18 reading 'The Grapes of Wrath' and then 'Les Miserables' by the great Victor Hugo cemented my political and humanitarian values. That was my Socialist/Communist epiphany. I still am. Have never read anything as powerful and unforgettable as those two masterpieces until Hesse and then 'Slaughterhouse-Five'.
I have never bought a property in England and have rented my whole life and in the process of chaotic moves have left behind countless books. Yet in a strange way it has made me recreate new libraries with different authors. Every cloud does have a silver lining.
Thanks for responding K. I think you and I could have many a long conversation over books and the concept of time maybe with a beer or three. 😉
