For me in the last two decades (2001-2021) in Britain has felt like a prequel to the catabolic collapse.

A very unpleasant (but not existential) precursor to the real thing which does feel like it is beginning to take-off right now. Brexit, Covid-19, Rise of Authoritarianism in Britain are all symptoms of the early stages of catabolic collapse.
