Our 21st Century Dr. Frankenstein Is Alive and Well, So Is His Creation

But can a “mother’s instinct” save humanity from AI?

Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, the ‘Godfather of AI’ who has been one of the major creators of true AI, left Google in May 2023. He gave as his reasons the possibility that AI could upend the job market, the flood of misinformation, and, last but by no means least, the existential risk posed by the creation of a true digital intelligence. Dr Hinton’s pioneering research on neural networks and deep learning has paved the way for AI systems like ChatGPT and their evolving upgrades. I can not say I fear the change to the job market as much as I fear the “existential risk” posed by the creation of a true digital intelligence.

It was the development of the Industrial Revolution — the internal mechanization of the means of production — that created our modern society based on the capitalist economic mode of production and commercialization. That is where the AI takeover has been born and brought up to engage in its exponential evolution and development.
