I was surprised myself at just how much I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

At first I wasn't sure.

When the lads meet Chiron the centaur I thought that we might be in Narnia-like territory.

But then the call to arms and the book and the events become very serious very quickly.

I could not put it down.

Would I call it a modern classic?

Definitely.
