The Vietnam War must be the easiest subject to win with via an anti-war film. The films are good and Apocalypse Now is the greatest of them all.

AQOTWF is bleak and unrelenting with no catharsis apart from Death.

It should have won.

War is not entertainment with big stars in big roles and that's why it didn't win.

Apocalypse Now straddles both the reality and the madness of War. Vietnam is the stage for a tale of the horror of man's evil via 'Heart of Darkness'.
