Hercules Poirot : Bringing Order to Chaos in a time of Lockdown.
“I will, therefore, take occasion to assert that the higher powers of the reflective intellect are more decidedly and more usefully tasked by the unostentatious game of draughts than by a the elaborate frivolity of chess.”
― Edgar Allan Poe, The Murders in the Rue Morgue
All of us have been faced with, to a lesser or greater extent, the need to fill time due to an enforced lockdown caused by the threat of Covid 19. What we have done with this new found form of inverted freedom is I am sure worthy of a Netflix documentary. In my case I suddenly found myself watching on ITV2 the 2 hour long ‘Poirot’ dramas that were made in the 1990’s starring David Suchet as the eponymous Belgian detective.
They were one of the most popular series on British television. But I must confess I never even watched one during their live transmission all those years ago. But now I am a most devoted fan and feel it incumbent upon me to honour him as he has provided me with much consolation during these truly awful days. You of course, must find the solace you need, in such trying times wherever you can and for me it is the little Belgian detective with a funny walk and a most perfect mustache. Of course there is so much more and I hope to be able to explain it.
