‘A Quiet Place Part II’ (2020/2021)

Please be aware my reader that there are one or two spoilers in my piece.

We begin, not where we last finished. We begin, at the very beginning. Sooner or later we end up there — or is it begin there? The start is a complete surprise and it is a very clever opening scene, a prequel in fact. Part II begins in silence. I mean complete silence. Nothing is moving and if nothing moves then it is soundless and silent.

We see a street full of parked cars and a town empty of people. OK. So we are back in the alien-dominated, hiding, human, world? Back in that enforced world of silence and survival. Well not exactly. Suddenly, a truck appears and out gets the dead Dad from Part I, Lee Abbott (John Krasinski, actor and director of film). OK. So, its now when are we? First prize. Now lets continue. Quiet at the back please.

It is a completely quiet place, in the town, because the noise has been transferred to the baseball game that almost everyone has gone to watch. We see all of the pre-attack Abbott family together enjoying an all-American day with the other townspeople in a Little League game. It will be the last. It’s almost Spielbergian, except, this is Krasinski’s film. Yet Spielberg does show up in the way Krasinski…
